Strengthening consumer research in the German state of Baden-Württemberg

Starting on the 1st of July 2012  the Consumer Ministry of the German state of Baden-Württemberg funds the creation of the Center for Consumer, Markets and Politics at the Zeppelin University in Friedrichshafen. The objective of the centre is to sharpen the profile of the state in consumer research and contribute to the strategic orientation of consumer policy.

In particular the centre will:

  • facilitate networking between consumer research in Baden-Württemberg – and on the national and international levels,
  • initiate knowledge transfer between science, politics and society,
  • shape the profile of Baden-Württemberg as a centre for consumer research nationally and internationally.

The centre will be led by Lucia Reisch. She is guest professor for “Consumer Behaviour and Consumer Policy” at the Zeppelin University Friedrichshafen as well as at the Copenhagen Business School.

Alexander Bonde, Consumer Minister in Baden-Württemberg explained: “As a distinct policy field consumer policy needs its own research basis. Currently there is a lack of consumer research in Germany. There is an urgent need, however, for consumer research that is oriented towards the real needs of consumers and which investigates the growing complexity of the consumer reality.”
