Three years ago, the “PRIME – Privacy in the Metaverse” project was launched with the aim of promoting privacy in virtual worlds through privacy-friendly design. On 3 June, an online expert discussion took place, during which the project’s key findings were presented and discussed. The following external speakers contributed to the expert discussion:
- Prof. Dr. Louisa Specht-Riemenschneider, Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information,
- Josephine Ballon, Managing Director of HateAid and
- Silke Schmidt, Head of XR HUB Bavaria
The key results of the three-year project are documented on the project website, in particular:
- Concrete design proposals for privacy-friendly virtual worlds
- Metrics for assessing the privacy-friendliness of virtual environments
- Explainer videos on the data protection and personality rights implications of the metaverse, as well as on possible applications of the metrics developed in the project
After three years of excellent interdisciplinary collaboration, we would like to thank our project partners from the field of information systems (University of Bamberg – Benedikt Morschheuser, Runjie Xie) and legal studies (University of Göttingen – Andreas Wiebe, Felix Büning, Markus Meyer; and University of Bonn – Daniel Winter). We also thank the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space for funding the project as part of the Privacy Platform.
