Data portability – what about it? Many consumers may be familiar with this – when trying to change their fitness tracker or electricity supplier the effort for retrieving personal data from the old service and transferring it to the new provider is just too high. With the new European Data Transferability Act (Article 20 of the EU General Data Protection Regulation) as of May 2018 consumers have the right to receive their individual data directly from one provider or to have it transferred to a new provider. So far, the relocation service when changing a bank account was common – in the future, the entire personal data can easily be moved.
