The discussion about consumer images, changes in consumption or sustainability are sometimes strangely historical, as the actors involved must solve current problems and think about future challenges. However, insights can be gained from the history of questions relevant to today. Therefore, consumer research, which is understood as an interdisciplinary project, must also involve the history of science. It opens the door to a deeper understanding of developments, and helps to take alternative perspectives and identify new paths.
