Toy safetyConPolicy presents results of a study on toy fair in Mumbai

Product safety plays an important role in consumer protection. The objective is to protect consumer from hazards to their health and safety. Product safety is of particular importance with regard to toy safety. This has to do with the fact that young children treat toys in ways that expose them much more to risks ranging from choking to the migration of chemicals.

The German toy industry imports a great share of toys sold on the German market. In a study ConPolicy assessed what expectations the German toy industry has regarding product safety and quality of imported toys and what experience it has made with importing toys from India. Furthermore, ConPolicy derived recommendations for action.  ConPolicy Director Prof Dr Christian Thorun presented the results of the study in the context of the toy fair in Mumbai. The study was conducted for German International Cooperation (GIZ) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.
