Overall, the already tense situation on cyber security in Germany worsened further in the reporting period. The threat in the cyber space is thus higher than ever. As in the previous year, a high threat from cybercrime was observed in the reporting period. Ransomware remained the main threat, especially for companies. In addition, there were various threats related to the Russian war of aggression on Ukraine, for example through hacktivism, especially by means of distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks, and collateral damage in cyber sabotage attacks in the context of the war. There have also been disruptions to IT supply chains during the reporting period as a result of both cybercrime and cyber activities in the context of the war in Ukraine. Increasing resilience to cyber attacks and technical disruptions is therefore a key task for all involved actors in government, business and society.
