The impulse paper of the German Advisory Council for Consumer Affairs (SVRV) provides recommendations on consumer policy in the next legislative period: The political debate ahead of the German federal elections focuses on the economy, migration and internal and external security. However, consumer policy is also a key policy area for a number of reasons. A consumer policy that takes people's everyday problems seriously and creates the conditions for self-determined decisions strengthens citizens' trust in state institutions. Consumer policy thus contributes to securing social cohesion. Good consumer policy also strengthens trust between consumers and the economy and can thus contribute to strengthening domestic demand.
