This year's report highlights the special requirements for IT security in the automotive sector from the perspective of digital consumer protection. It also includes a review of scientific findings on the IT security behavior of consumers and provides information on significant security incidents and risks in the digital consumer market in the 2021 reporting period. Another substantive highlight is the introduction of the IT security label. In addition, the report takes an overall look at current challenges and addresses potential areas for action in digital consumer protection.

This annual publication by the BSI provides analytical information and a thematic analysis of a complex field of action that is shaped by many stakeholders. These include the consumer group itself, manufacturers and providers, as well as government and civil society actors. This spectrum of stakeholders in digital consumer protection forms the target group for the content conveyed, not only to provide orientation with the challenges and (trend) topics outlined, but also to stimulate active exchange to increase information security in the digital consumer market.
