The platform economy is in crisis. That is well known. What is less well known is what strategies European platforms are trying out to do better. Sustainable value creation can succeed if platforms get good rules from Brussels. But even better: They adapt proven strategies from successful and sustainable European digital companies. These include taking active responsibility for their role in the lives, work and economies of their customers and entrepreneurs, a commitment to clearer rules and algorithmic transparency, an advocacy of interoperability and openness, and a clear commitment to striving for a sustainable platform economy instead of pure profit maximization. Because this is possible – and necessary.
