With a market share of around 30 per cent, palm oil is one of the most important vegetable oils worldwide. A large range of products like margarine, pizza, chocolate, detergents or lipsticks is based on it. At the same time the production of palm oil is a major cause for deforestation and has negative impacts on people and natural environment.
The Forum for Sustainable Palm Oil (FONAP) aims to significantly increase the proportion of segregated, certified sustainable palm oil in the DACH region. Today, after a pilot phase the forum will be founded in the context of a member meeting. Due to this special occasion German Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture participated at the event. ConPolicy-Director Prof Dr Christian Thorun moderated the meeting.
