Repeatedly consumers highlight a lack of consumer protection in financial markets. The German government reacted to this criticism and a number of scandals by giving the German Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) powers for collective consumer protection. Furthermore, a consumer watchdog was established by the German consumer organizations.
At the occasion of the 4th Consumer Protection Forum of the BaFin representatives from businesses, consumer organizations, government and authorities discuss whether the measures that have been implemented suffice or whether more action is needed. Furthermore, the consumer model is questioned and European measures for improved financial consumer protection is discussed. ConPolicy-Executive Director, Prof Dr Christian Thorun, moderates this event.
