CDR-Conference 2023
People at the center of digitalization
On November 9, 2023, between 1 and 5 PM, the CDR Initiative invites you to join the CDR Conference 2023 at the dbb Forum in Berlin-Mitte. The topic of this year's CDR conference is 'People at the center of digitalization – Relevance, areas of tension and approaches to solutions for human-centeredness in the context of corporate digital responsibility'.
In a keynote address, a panel discussion and workshops, the CDR Initiative intends to address the following questions:
What is meant in specific cases when human-centeredness comes into focus in the development of new technologies, products and services?
How are possible conflicts of objectives dealt with?
What examples exist of successful interaction between people and digital tools?
In the preparation of the event, a population-representative survey will be conducted on selected aspects of human-centeredness. Among other things, the expectations of citizens will be surveyed.
More information on the speakers, the program and registration will follow soon. Feel free to sign up for the CDR Initiative newsletter to find out when registration opens.
Since January 2023, the CDR Initiative office is operated by the partners ConPolicy – Institute for Consumer Policy and concern. To learn more about the CDR Initiative click here. Please contact us if you have any questions.

Study on the performance of the Package Travel Directive
Travel packages – including fully organized trips but also combinations of two or more travel services such as combining a hotel stay with a rental car – offer a multitude of consumer rights, compared to individually booked travel services. These rights are governed by the EU Package Travel Directive (PTD). VVA and ConPolicy were commissioned by the European Parliament’s IMCO committee to assess the performance of the directive and broader consumer protection issues in the implementation of passenger rights. ConPolicy specifically assessed how well consumers are aware of their rights and whether they are able to enforce them.
The study found that the law was overall fit-for-purpose but that it could be sharpened in some respects to strengthen consumer protection. For example, pre-contractual information could be better revealed using a standardized and concise format like the Key Information Document used for insurance services.

ConPolicy participates in panel discussion at the Community Convention of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV)
At the beginning of September, the Sustainable Digitization Community of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection hosted its first Community Convention, with the title 'Shaping Digitalization!' in Berlin.
The program was opened by a speech from Federal Minister Steffi Lemke, followed by a presentation from AlgorithmWatch. This was followed by a panel discussion that looked at the practical perspective and addressed the hurdles and possible solutions for sustainable online consumption. ConPolicy was represented in the discussion by project manager Dr. Sara Elisa Kettner, who particularly addressed findings from the ZuSiNa research project and, among other things, introduced solutions for the implementation of accessible sustainability information in online shops. In addition, Maike Janßen, Federal Environment Agency, Daniel Steffens, Zalando and Marc Engelmann, Boomerang participated in the panel discussion.
