Ulrich Merkes

The VINETA GmbH is a network of internationally experienced consultants. It supports businesses, NGOs and public development agencies as well as “social entrepreneurs” in their sustainability objectives. VINETA is convinced that economic interests can be aligned with the objective for more sustainability (“doing well by doing good”). VINETA offers advice on a wide range of issues:

VINETA was founded inter alia by Ulrich Merkes, who is now the director. Ulrich is an experienced project manager with a strong background in international strategic and IT consulting. After the completion of a degree in business administration Ulrich worked for ten years as a business consultant. For seven years he worked for Deloitte Consulting, one of the world leading consultancies. At this time he was in charge of many international projects. He focused specifically on the development, alignment and implementation of business and IT strategies, organizational development, corporate governance, process reengineering, business development and key account management. Hence Ulrich combines management competence with strong experience in the conception of new strategies.  In addition Ulrich completed a Master degree in International Business Management at the EAE Barcelona in 2003.

Projects

During the last few years Ulrich was involved in a range of projects dealing with micro-finance, remittances and mobile financial services. He is (co-) author of many publications such as the recently published study “TransferPlus - Value-adding remittance services to better leverage the development potential of money transfer”. This study was written by Swisscontact for the German Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (gtz). For Swisscontact Ulrich is responsible for the topics “Information and Communication Technologies for the Poor” with a focus on “mobile banking”, remittances and other transaction services.
